History of the North Caldwell Baseball & Softball Association

Celebrating More Than 60 Years of Baseball and Softball in North Caldwell

Since 1962, the North Caldwell Baseball & Softball Association (NCBSA) has been dedicated to providing children in North Caldwell with the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the games of baseball and softball.  For more than six decades, generations of North Caldwell families have volunteered their time to build and maintain an organization centered on youth athletics, community, sportsmanship and the development of young players.  What began as a local youth baseball program has grown into a comprehensive baseball and softball organization serving hundreds of children and families.  In 1999, the NCBSA officially adopted the North Caldwell Knights name for its travel teams, establishing the identity that has represented North Caldwell in competitive travel ever since.  Today, the Association continues that tradition with Knights baseball teams from 7U through 14U and softball teams from 8U through 14U.

A Tradition of Community Investment

The NCBSA's commitment to North Caldwell has always extended beyond just the game.  For decades, the Association and its volunteers have worked closely with the Borough to improve the fields and facilities used by the community's children.  NCBSA has made substantial financial contributions toward projects including field regrading and improvements, construction of dugouts, field maintenance, and other improvements to North Caldwell's athletic facilities.

The Association's was the driving force behind the recent transformation of Fireman's Field into a state-of-the-art synthetic turf facility.  The project was a collaborative effort involving the Borough of North Caldwell, the North Caldwell Recreation Foundation and private fundraising.  The Association is specifically thankful to the Cordovano family for their significant contributions toward the turf project.  The renovated field included synthetic turf, new dugouts and fencing, drainage improvements, and opened for community use in 2023.  The Fireman's Field project represents the continuing philosophy of NCBSA and its supporters: invest in the fields today so that future generations of North Caldwell children can enjoy them tomorrow.

Over the years, the Association expanded beyond recreational baseball and softball to provide competitive opportunities for North Caldwell players.  The North Caldwell Knights travel baseball and softball program became an important part of that development.  The Knights have continued to grow into a competitive travel program while remaining connected to the community and families that built NCBSA.  In recent years, the Knights have experienced significant success at multiple age levels, with numerous league and tournament championships in baseball and softball.

A History of Volunteer Leadership

For more than six decades, the North Caldwell Baseball & Softball Association has been guided by dedicated parents and community volunteers who have given their time to provide baseball and softball opportunities for generations of North Caldwell children.

Previous NCBSA presidents and directors of travel include John Morgan, Don Long, Dennis Hiel, Al Sheridan, Mike Rinsky, and Tony Santomauro, among many other parents and community members who have served on the Association's Board of Directors and volunteered their time to support the organization.

The Association's success has always depended on this tradition of volunteer leadership.  Board members and coaches have donated countless hours to organizing teams, scheduling games, coaching players, raising funds, maintaining fields and facilities, and ensuring that North Caldwell children have a place to play.

NCBSA Today

Today, the North Caldwell Baseball & Softball Association continues that tradition by providing competitive baseball and softball opportunities for North Caldwell's youth.

The current program includes the following Knights teams:

Baseball: 7U through 14U
Softball: 8U through 14U

The Association continues to emphasize player development, competitive opportunities, sportsmanship and community involvement.

NCBSA remains a New Jersey nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to operate youth travel baseball and softball programs.  The Association's current programs continue to operate under the North Caldwell Knights name.

Looking Ahead

More than sixty years after its founding, the mission of the North Caldwell Baseball & Softball Association remains much the same: provide North Caldwell children with an opportunity to play, compete, learn and grow through baseball and softball.

The fields may change.  The uniforms may change.  The players and coaches change every year.  But the commitment of North Caldwell families to youth baseball and softball continues.  From the first teams of the early 1960s, through generations of volunteer coaches and board members, to today's North Caldwell Knights, the Association remains an important part of the North Caldwell community.  Founded in 1962.  Built by volunteers. Sustained by the community.  Continuing the tradition for the next generation.
